The Classic Car Boot Sale once again pulls up to King’s Cross for its annual spring edition on 27th and 28th April 2024.

A vintage and preowned enthusiasts paradise, the much-loved two-day festival includes quality sustainable shopping, entertainment and much more across three different locations in King’s Cross: Granary Square, Lewis Cubitt Square and Coal Drops Yard.

Open daily from 10am and 6pm, there are opportunities galore for visitors to hit the ‘shops’ and grab a bargain whilst surrounding themselves with classic cars and soaking up the vintage vibes for this stand-out weekend.

Coal Drops Yard

New for this year will be a specially curated selection of magnificent Ford Mustangs and muscle cars to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Ford Mustang.  This iconic American muscle car design is a petrolhead’s dream car, appearing in movies such as James Bond’s Goldfinger and Bullitt which saw Steve McQueen driving a Mustang 390 GT. A meticulous replica of this will be on display for the first time in Coal Drops Yard.  Visitors are encouraged to spot more muscle cars around the site including the Dodge Challenger, Chevrolet Camaro SS, Dodge Charger and SRT Hellcat.

Visitors can also expect a spectacular array of pre-1990 vehicles, quality second-hand goodies and plenty of street food and drink to keep the fun flowing, as well as an incredible range of individual or Car Club-owned rare classic vehicles, campervans, scooters, classic motorbikes, custom bicycles and ride-ins from mods and rockers throughout the day.

Celebrity cars on display include a previously unseen replica of John Lennon’s Rolls Royce Phantom with the incredible psychedelic paint work. The Beatles arrived in the car (originally painted black) for their OBE ceremony at Buckingham Palace in October 1965 and it was decorated in this gypsy caravan style in 1967 by ‘The Fool’.

As well as the special displays of vintage cars, Coal Drops Yard will host event favourites including the largest ever Charity Super.Mkt zone and the Repair Fair, plus, there’ll be the opportunity to become part of a national social history archive by bringing vintage objects or photos to be scanned into the Museum of Youth Culture Studio.

Charity Super.Mkt

After a successful national tour, Charity Super.Mkt will return home to King’s Cross – the place where it all began – where shoppers can select the best vintage items from charities including North London Hospice, Vision Foundation, St Joseph Hospice, Five Sister Charity Shops, Isabel Hospice Ltd, Fara Enterprises Ltd, Havens Hospices, Spitalfields Crypt Trust, Traid, Shaw Trust Ltd, Age Uk, Charity Super.Mkt Pop-Up, plus many more.

Repair Fair

Between midday and 6pm, expert upcyclers from The Classic Car Boot Sale will be on hand to provide top tips for fixing up a beloved vintage garment, whether it’s been in the back of a wardrobe for a decade or picked up ‘new’ at the event! The repair shop also includes free patchwork and sashiko sewing workshops.

Museum of Youth Culture Studio

Visitors will have a unique opportunity to become part of a youth culture archive at the Museum of Youth Culture’s pop-up studio. Participants are encouraged to bring clothes, vintage objects and photographs that tell a story about being young. These will be photographed and scanned into the archive’s permanent collection and digitised for the future.

Lewis Cubitt Square

Lewis Cubitt Square will once again be offering an extended shopping, food and live music area. Sure to keep an upbeat vibe for busy shoppers on the Saturday will be the female-fronted rockabilly and rock ‘n’ roll band, The Obscuritones. Their close harmony and rocking rhythm have been compared to Andrews Sisters singing with the Stray Cats after a night out with the Cramps.

On Sunday The Bootleg Jam will join the line up in what’s touted to be the closest thing the original band performing singles, and assorted classics from six studio albums. This band have the look, the suits, the Jam shoes, the sound, the Rickenbacker guitar, the Fender bass and the Premier drum kit and are a fantastic tribute to The Jam.

The square will be filled with special content including a collaboration with Krazyhorse dealership – providing a selection of their classic vehicles, motorbikes, quality motoring clothing and accessories from their five showrooms from around the UK.

Granary Square

The Classic Car Boot Sale would not be complete without London’s hottest club scene and DJ collectives making an appearance, all spinning the sharpest, vinyl floor fillers from the Routemaster bus bar on Granary Square for nonstop dancing. More shopping and classic street food trucks and the evermoving display of scooter clubs and classic motorbikes riding in and out throughout the day all make for a great photo opportunity.

Wayne Hemingway, founder of HemingwayDesign and co-founder of The Classic Car Boot Sale, said: “As the Classic Car Boot Sale has grown into an incredible weekend with wonderful eye candy – is there a cooler gathering of people who “get” the history of youth culture in Europe.  We see London’s best-dressed vintage, environmentally conscious and alternative crowd – and a famous face or two – who come to town to bag themselves some unique, second-hand finds. It’s uplifting to see the breadth of audience who get a kick out of this. Everyone and their dogs (literally) seem to leave with a smile on their face. You can have fun and do your bit for the future of this wonderful planet we live on

This long running gathering of sassy sustainable shoppers, fashionistas, vintage mafia, scene queens, rockers, scooterists, gorgeous goths, crate diggers, metal gurus, petrol heads, electric warriors, the eco conscious and the vintage curious all come together in the centre of London for one extraordinary mini festival that has thrift and preloved at its core.

The Classic Car Boot Sale is a must attend event for all things vintage and pre-worn and salutes the subcultures that make the UK so unique.
